Sweetwater Picture Day Fun

The idea of taking a class picture of 14 young children can be a little daunting.  I am sure you can relate to how difficult it can be to take a picture of your child, let alone 13 more, that also don't necessarily want to sit still or look at the camera! I have found that over my years of being a professional photographer there are a few tricks that seem to work wonders.  On one hand I have to be firm, tell them where to sit, how to stand, what to do with their hands, and make sure they know I mean business.  Yet on the other hand I get to be silly and let them have fun with it so that picture day does not become a dreaded ordeal.  Today I wanted to share with you a few "out takes" from Sweetwater School 2013-2014 class picture day.

After I got everyone positioned, which went surprisingly well, it was time to get these kiddos smiling.  I asked them to show me their teeth, expecting some giant toothy grins.  Some of the kids took me quite literally as you can see. I am sure their dentists would be proud!

What picture day would be complete without a goofy picture?  The kids just LOVE doing this; I love seeing how creative they get with their silly face.

Here is the final class picture, and its a real winner!  14 bright little faces all looking in the right direction, no blinks, no one hiding behind their friend.  It was such a pleasure to capture the class this year, and create a memory that will last a lifetime!

Spring Program 6/11

Time for the Sweetwater kids to show off their performance skills. The annual Spring Program is approaching and everyone in the family is welcome Wednesday 6/11 at 6:30 pm. Bringing folding chairs is advised, as we lost many chairs in the December Deluge.

Closing for the Summer!

The Fife School district closes for the summer June 13th. Sweetwater will remain open until June 27th if we have enough requests. Most of the time attendance drops dramatically at the end of the Fife District school year. In order to provide a viable learning environment to remain open past that time period, we will need assess the amount of children attending as well as the time of day requested by parents.

Please express your needs to Mrs. Stockman as soon as possible. If you are planning on ending your child’s Sweetwater School year in line with the Fife School District calendar, please note your tuition will be prorated to reflect the reduced amount of time. Please check with Mrs. Stockman before making your June payment.

Mother's Day Tea

Annual Mother's Day Tea event was a complete success. "Mom's" of all kinds showed up to witness games, treats served by little hands and handmade presents for mommies of all kinds. Too many precious pictures...have to share many.

Tapestry Project

Who knew that such a simple sewing project would provide so many hours of fun and result in such beauty. This was so easy and ready for little hand sewing immediately. The kids took the task right away and it's nice to see them do some self-directed fine motor handwork.

Easter Decoration

Beautiful handmade Easter inspired creations cover the wall at Sweetwater. The soft pastel colors of eggs and ducklings remind us all of Spring and brighten the room.

Tristan is blindfolded for a game we called, "valentine, valentine, where's your heart?"
We played it at Halloween also, except then we said, "skeleton, skeleton, where's your bone?"

IMPORTANT: In the event of snow...

In the event of snow, Sweetwater follows the Fife School District closure schedule. Note: our policy used to be that if Fife was two hours late, we would start on time. I am changing that to closing for the whole day, in that event; seems to be if Fife opens two hours late they end up closing for good anyway; this should help with any confusion.

Annual Chinese New Year's Parade

Miss Suzy designed this collaborative dragon!
Our Chinese New Year's Parade on Jan 31st was a big hit! Our collaborative dragon designed by Mrs. Suzy (on the wall in the Practical Life area), achieves the scaly effect by rolling pins taped with bubble wrap dipped in paint along with a potato masher; check her/him out! Each child made their own dragon, complete with crepe-paper tails and lots of glitter. We put on our Chinese Bamboo Flute music and the children swirled and danced.

Brrrrr....it's still cold outside!

Reminder: cold weather is still here! Please make sure your child has a hat and gloves/mittens that can stay at school.

Valentine's Day Party

Our class Valentine's Day party will be Friday, Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m. Please look for class lists coming home this week! On party day, please send your child's valentines for their friends in a bag clearly labeled with your child's name. We are making Valentine envelopes to hold all their cards and will help the kids pass them out.

A snack sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board, above the Kinder cubbys. In the past, parents have come up with some great ideas: watermelon cut out with a cookie cutter into heart shapes, yogurt muffins, strawberries, grapes, jello etc. Please no foods containing peanuts or peanut butter (allergies).

We love to have parent helpers for parties. Grandparents and siblings are welcome also.
